About Bigglab

Bigglab was founded in 2006 by Maarten van den Biggelaar, after which he gathered a team around him - consisting of creative, business and organizational talents.

Bigglab develops its own new companies, products, and services.

Bigglab acts as a (creative) consultant for new and existing companies.

Maarten van den Biggelaar

Maarten van den Biggelaar is the former CEO and currently a creative consultant of Hachette Filipacchi Media The Netherlands, the company he started in 1986 (then named Quote Media).
This company's first activity was launching Quote, now the largest Dutch business & media entertainment magazine. Maarten was also one of the founders of Planet Internet. In 1996, in collaboration with Liberty Media, Quote Media started the Dutch version of interactive music channel The Box. The channel was sold to German corporation Viva Media AG in 2001.

Things do go wrong sometimes: working together with broadcasting company Veronica, Maarten started VNR (Veronica News Radio) in 1995. This project ended after one year. Maarten studied law at VU University in Amsterdam and at New York University.
During his student days he started a number of catering establishments, of which the most well-known are Dansen bij Jansen and Restaurant Eerste Klas (at Amsterdam Central Station), both located in Amsterdam.

Gamious

Gamious focuses on digitally and distributedly publishing original, easily accessible and high-quality games. Its founders are Pim Bouwman (formerly of Endemol and Spil Games) and Maarten van den Biggelaar.

Recent changes in the ever-dynamic games industry have prompted a different role for publishers. Starting out has become much easier, which has resulted in the market being flooded with games - with only a limited amount of commercial successes. Pim Bouman: "there's no lack of good game developers. There is, however, a shortage of publishers who can leverage scale in the domains of marketing and distribution. By choosing the right formats and effectively exploiting intellectual properties, we want to provide good games with the success they deserve."

Studio Online
Studio Online offers huge savings for publishers, art directors and printers. An initiative that saves a lot of costs has to become successful. A good reason for Bigglab to invest in this startup.
Studio Online has developed software to streamline the large quantities of images that photographers send to publishers. Simply put, the publisher defines all specifics in the system, like resolution and color profile, per magazine. The photographer only needs to upload the images and click on the magazine that the photos are meant for. After that, the system makes sure that the images reach the proper contact at the magazine, precisely according to the specified characteristics.

Studio Online also offers solutions for image editing. Orders can be made online, based on fully transparent costs and tight delivery times. Complete studio services are offered for image editing, retouching, archive digitalization, scanning and design; in short, everything you might expect from a complete graphic design studio.

Project Collision
Collision is a computer game, thought up by astrophysicist Diederik Kruijssen (24). Bigglab and Diederik founded a joint venture that will launch the product in 2011. Firstly, this will be directed at the world's amateur astronomers. Visit www.projectcollision.com for more information.
Collision is a game that takes place in space, during the future collision between our Milky Way and the nearby Andromeda system, that will, three billion years in the future, destroy all life on earth. The player leads one of the missions searching for a new, safe home world.
